PROG1365   Three Choirs Festivals bound volume containing the programme books for the Three Choirs Trilogy for 1878 (Worcester) 1879 (Hereford) & 1880 (Gloucester) Three Choirs Festivals bound volume containing the programme books for the Three Choirs Trilogy for 1878 (Worcester) 1879 (Hereford) & 1880 (Gloucester). Modern blue cloth boards. The orchestra for the Worcester Festival names ‘Elgar Jnr’ in the violins. This programme thus represents the first appearance of Sir Edward Elgar as a professional performer at the Three Choirs Festival with which he had such an important association throughout his life – making his last appearance in 1933 a few months before he died. It is an interesting reflection on the unique career that he had as a composer that two of the principle soloists listed in the 1878 programme – and who no doubt took no notice of a 21 year old violinist in the orchestra at that time – were Edward Lloyd whose main claim to fame today is that he gave the world premiere as Elgar’s ‘Gerontius’in 1900 and Emma Albani who was one of soloists in the world premier of Elgar momentous oratorio ‘The Apostles’ in 1906       £200.00 prog
